Greetings!

I feel very blessed to be the principal of West Marion Elementary School. This is a wonderful school with great things happening in classrooms every day!

I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education K-12. I also received my Master's Degree in School Administration at East Tennessee State University.  I began my educational career working with hearing impaired students, and pre-school students.  I have also served students in Special Education, as well as serving as an elementary teacher.  My administrative experience includes serving as an assistant principal at McDowell High School for two years, and principal at North Cove Elementary for four years.  I am very honored to call West Marion Elementary my home away from home!

One of the greatest blessings I have observed at West Marion is the atmostphere of respect, love and care exhibited by all stakeholders:  staff, students, parents and community members.  I still firmly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and I appreciate that we have established an atmosphere conducive to helping our students be successful.  Thank you to our staff for their dedication to helping each student achieve academically, and to our parents and community members for their support, including monetary donations, materialistic donations, and most of all, their time that is spent helping our students.  Each stakeholder plays a vital role in creating a positive atmosphere for our community school, and I sincerely appreciate each contribution.  It has already been a great year at West Marion!

Please feel free to contact me by phone at 828.738.3353 or email desarae.kirkpatrick@mcdowell.k12.nc.us.  Thank you!
