I feel very blessed to be the principal of West Marion Elementary School. This is a wonderful school with great things happening in classrooms every day!

I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education K-12. I also received my Master's Degree in School Administration at East Tennessee State University.  I began my educational career working with hearing impaired students, and pre-school students.  I have also served students in Special Education, as well as serving as an elementary teacher.  My administrative experience includes serving as an assistant principal at McDowell High School for two years, principal at North Cove Elementary for four years and this is my second year at West Marion Elementary.  I am very honored to call West Marion Elementary my "home away from home!"

One of the greatest blessings I have observed at West Marion is the atmostphere of respect, love and care exhibited by all stakeholders:  staff, students, parents and community members.  I still firmly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and I appreciate that we have established an atmosphere conducive to helping our students be successful.  Thank you to our staff for their dedication to helping each student achieve academically, and to our parents and community members for their support, including monetary donations, materialistic donations, and most of all, their time that is spent helping our students.  Each stakeholder plays a vital role in creating a positive atmosphere for our community school, and I sincerely appreciate each contribution.  It is going to be a great year at West Marion!

Spring is Arriving!

Happy Easter from West Marion Elementary!  Spring is arriving, and the weather is beautiful.  I hope you were able to spend some relaxing time with your family during Spring Break.

Kindergarten registration is coming soon!  Registration packets are available at each elementary school.  Student registration packets should be turned in at the school on Kindergarten Registration Day, Friday, April 11.  West Marion will host a school tour and administer screenings for students registering at West Marion on April 11, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.  We will provide a tour of the school, a ride on the school bus and necessary information for when your child begins school.  I look forward to seeing all our West Marion families at Kindergarten Registration.

On another note, testing is just around the corner for many students in our building.  With testing, we are aware of how nervous students can get during this time, and we also realize that research shows that students concentrate and feel better with a little food on their stomach.  The past few years, West Marion Elementary has provided “packs of crackers” and juice to every 3rd-6th grade student each morning before the testing session begins.  Last year, parents provided crackers, and the school provided the juice for students.  This year, would appreciate the same ritual.  Our staff would like to provide the juice, but we are asking for parents who can contribute, to please donate “packs of crackers” (they usually come with 8 packs in a box; cheese, peanut butter, cream chives, etc.) for our students to eat right before testing sessions.  If you are willing to donate crackers for our students to have before testing, please send those to the school office or to your child’s teacher by Friday, May 9, so that we will know how many crackers we have to distribute.  We appreciate any and all donations of “packs of crackers” for our upcoming testing dates.  Again, we appreciate the support we continue to have from parents and community members.
