Fall is here!
Welcome to October! Cooler temperatures and falling leaves bring us into another season! We have almost completed the first six weeks of school and it is amazing to watch our children grow and learn. Although our school system has now shifted to nine week grading periods, we will offer parent/teacher conference dates to families next week. On Wednesday, October 9, we will host parent conference from 3:00-5:30. On Friday, October 11, we will host parent conference from 11:00-12:30. Sign-up sheets for families to choose parent conference times on those dates should be coming home soon. I encourage you to meet with your child’s teacher in reference to progress and concerns, especially since we still have some time to work before the end of the grading period. Thank you for your support so far this school year!
I would also like to thank our Parent Advisory Committee Members for their participation in our school meetings. The Parent Advisory members for the 2013-2014 school year include: Amy Dowdle, Loretta Forbes, Brian Skeens, Pam Banner and Jennifer Whitson. Thank you folks, for your dedication to helping our school!
The car rider dismissal process has been very busy these past few weeks, and I want to thank parents and family members for their continued support and help during car rider arrival and dismissal. As you drop off children in the morning, please make sure that your child is ready to get out of the car as soon as you pull up to a stop. Please make sure that drivers are pulling up as far as possible so that our staff can unload as many vehicles as safely possible. We have some students who are receiving tardies in the morning, so I would like to remind parents that children can be dropped off as early as 7:30 each morning. We have a lull in drop-offs between 7:35-7:45 each morning, and I encourage you to please leave a few minutes earlier if your child is receiving tardy slips. All students who arrive after 8:00 must get a tardy slip. Thank you for your help in this matter, as safety is our number one priority.
Our PTO is hosting a yard sale at West Marion Elementary School on Saturday October 12 beginning at 7:00 am. If families would like to sell items at our yard sale, the cost is $10 for a 10X13 spot, and $15 for a 10X13 spot with a table. Please contact Autumn Skeens to reserve your spot today! First come, first served basis!
I would also like to recognize our volunteers! Last year, West Marion volunteers logged in 5,546 hours of service to our school! Our volunteers are a tremendous asset, and we are so thankful for all of their help! If you are interested in volunteering, please see Mrs. Wendy Gaffigan. As another step in safety procedures for our school, all volunteers are required to have a criminal background check, as do all of our employees for our school. Therefore, if any adult plans to “volunteer” for a field trip, please see your child’s classroom teacher or our school guidance counselor, Mrs. Wendy Gaffigan, for more information about criminal background checks. Again, this is a safety procedure for all volunteers within our school.
